Swathi Ravichandran, a Carnatic Vocalist hailing from Chennai, India, currently resides in Seattle, USA. Rooted in a family of musicians and harikatha exponents, she draws inspiration from esteemed gurus including her grandfather, Thirupoonthuruthy Sri V Venkatesan, and Sangita Kala Acharya Chengalpettu Sri. Ranganathan, both disciples of Alathur Brothers. Currently, she continues to learn from Dr. Sumithra Vasudev, a prime disciple of Sangita Kalanidhi Dr. R Vedavalli. All her gurus have instilled in her a deep sense of ‘parampara’ and ‘patanthara’, often a hallmark of Swathi’s performances.
Swathi’s unwavering approach to achieve artistic integrity is characterized by clarity in ‘sahityam’, bhava in ‘raga’ explorations and a solid ‘laya’ control. Her voice, versatility, creativity, shruti suddham and bhavam are much appreciated by the audiences and critics alike. As an All India Radio graded artist and a Master's in Indian Classical Music, Swathi has garnered awards from renowned 'Sabhas' like Narada Gana Sabha, Indian Fine Arts, Mylapore Fine Arts and the Music Academy to name a few.
Beyond her roles as a performer, teacher, researcher, she is also an organizer and a trustee of Thirupoonthuruthi Sri Narayana Tirtha Swamigal Trust. Driven by a sense of responsibility, Swathi's journey encompasses not only musical prowess but also a deep connection to literature and a dedication to evolving as a musician in today's context.
Driven by her responsibility as a musician, Swathi spends a lot of time teaching and spreading the art form to interested students across the globe. The rich lineage, exposure to stalwarts and a deep family tradition of being with music inevitably reflects in the person and musician she is.
